We had a fantastic ride up at West Dome, great weather and a good turn out too.
24 riders in total were greeted to a fresh morning with a bit of low cloud hanging around. The decision was made to stick to the bush tracks in the morning until things warmed up and then we will attempt to go over the top after
an early lunch.
The morning trails were great weaving our way through pine forests to native bush. Some shaded parts offering great entertainment as the water that had formed there made some parts like a ice rink.
Once lunch was done and dusted we headed on a mission over the top and by this stage things had thawed out a bit and the sun was shinning, climbing quickly to the top we found snow and a technical hill climb. A competition soon
was underway to see who could get the highest, which brought out some very spectacular techniques.
Dropping down the other side we rode to the hut up by the river for a breather and to take in the surroundings.
Back in the saddle we followed the river around the base of West Dome and back over the top via a old beaten up 4wd track and by this stage there were a few tired puppies including myself. We made it back to the cars around 4
o'clock.
All in all it was a great day out and considering the numbers we traveled a good distance.
Till next ride,
Nigel.
